Shōgun: The phenomenal series breaks an awards record

Released this year on FX, Hulu and Disney+, “Shōgun” made a big impression. Notably with Emmy Awards voters, who helped the show set a new record.

Shoguna largely successful bet

After a first adaptation released in 1980, which had met with great success, fans of the eponymous novel by James Clavell were able to discover the series this year ShogunThis invites us to follow the destinies of three characters in 17th century Japan: a protestant sailor whose ship ran aground on the Japanese shores, one of the members of the Board of Regents who shows a strong curiosity for him and a christian translator responsible for translating the sailor’s words.

Seducing with a remake is never easy. Yet, that’s precisely what the series created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks has managed to do. Shogun has been unanimously applauded upon its release, thanks to its attention to historical details, the beauty of its images and the performance of its actors. It has even become the most viewed series of all those on The Walt Disney Company’s streaming servicesThe show also distinguished itself by beating a record of awards.

The show breaks the record for Emmys won in one year

As reported by Variety, Shogun has beat the number of Emmy Awards received in one year. The series had already broken this record last week at the Creative Arts Emmys, the first part of the Emmys. It had collected 14 trophies, surpassing John Adams and her 13 statuettes. And during the second part of the ceremony, this Monday, September 16, she extended her record with four new victories.

While the previous record was 13 trophies won in the same year, Shogun has thus done much better. With 18 trophiesthe series set a new score that will be hard to beat. Among the trophies won, the show received that of best drama tv series. Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai were also respectively crowned best actor and best actress.

The series will continue

As a reminder, Shogun is not going to stop there. Two new seasons of the show are in the works. We don’t know yet what they will be about. Perhaps they will borrow elements from other books in James Clavell’s Asian Saga. In any case, as explained last June, the creators of the series know how his story will end. They also assure that the second season will be “darker”. On the other hand, we will probably have to wait a while before we can discover it.
