Cannes Film Festival 2024: The Caméra d’Or jury chaired by Emmanuelle Béart and Baloji

The Caméra d’Or jury of the 2024 Film Festival, chaired by Emmanuelle Béart and Baloji, is ready for the upcoming edition.

The jury of the Caméra d’Or Cannes Film Festival 2024, one of the most prestigious awards of the festival which celebrates one of the first films presented in the Official Selection or in the parallel sections (with the exception of Acid), is now established. In the past, the Golden Camera has been awarded to renowned filmmakers (Jim Jarmusch, Jafar Panahi, Steve McQueen) and last year, it was awarded to The Tree of Golden Butterflies by Pham Thien An.

This year, at its head, not one but two personalities from the world of cinema: actress and director Emmanuelle Béart and the director and songwriter Balojihimself awarded the Un Certain Regard New Voice Prize in 2023 for his first feature film Augur.

This is not the first time in the history of the festival that a duo will be responsible for co-chairing this jury! In 1996, actress Françoise Fabian was accompanied by director Daniel Schmid, in 2002, Marthe Keller teamed up with Géraldine Chaplin and in 2006, brothers Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne shared this poster.

“As a self-taught filmmaker, filmmaker from the Congolese diaspora, it is an immense honor to be a privileged witness to the vitality of newly arrived directors, to discover asserted singularities, their inaugural work which will lastingly imprint the identity of their filmography.” told Balojiupon the announcement of his appointment.

For his part, Emmanuelle Béart said : “A first film is the impossibility of doing anything other than digging into the depths of one’s being what one cannot keep silent. A moving and terribly free birth: no one is waiting for you yet. We are going with it wonder and respect honor our duty.”

Like every year, the rest of the jury is made up of French representatives of the profession – press, industry, association of filmmakers – alongside Emmanuelle Béart and Baloji:

  • Gilles PorteAFC – Director of Photography
  • Pascal BuronFICAM – DGA HR & TSF Support
  • Zoe WittockSRF – Screenwriter, director
  • Nathalie ChiffletSFCC – Head of cinema & culture section Ebra group, treasurer of the SFCC
