As a reminder, the certificate, which certifies the knowledge and skills acquired at the end of secondary school, at the end of the third year, is made up of a continuous assessment part and final tests.

It is graded out of 800 points in total: 400 points of continuous assessment and 400 points of final exams (French, mathematics, history-geography, science and oral). You must obtain at least 400 points to obtain it. French and mathematics are evaluated out of 100 points, and history-geography and science out of 50 points.

The oral exam, spread over a period from mid-April to the end of the written exams, is evaluated out of 100 points. Its main objective is to assess the quality of the oral expression of the candidates, who choose their subject. This may relate to the history of the arts (presentation of a pictorial work), an educational path (in particular an oral internship) or interdisciplinary practical teaching (project combining several subjects).

Passing the brevet, whose predecessor (the BEPC) was created in 1947, does not determine progress to the second year of secondary school. But in December, Gabriel Attal, when he was Minister of Education, announced his desire to reform this exam to strengthen its ” requirement “as part of the measures of “shock of knowledge”.
