He is crowned “the most beautiful market in France 2024”: the Halles de Niort market wins the 7th edition of the competition organized by TF1, in partnership with our colleagues at La Nouvelle République. The covered market halls of the capital of Deux-Sèvres, inaugurated in 1871 on the banks of the Sèvre, have visibly seduced the inhabitants of the department and elsewhere, having collected the most votes in its favor since the beginning of March on the competition website. “We invite everyone to come visit this market, come visit Niort”says David Videira, representative of the Halles traders.

First coronation

It’s a first title for the city which came in 6th place in 2022 and 9th in 2019, among 219 competitors at the start. The Halles, built on two levels, made of bricks, glass and metal, house around sixty traders every morning except Mondays, and as many outside on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

We are so happy, says Mayor Jérôme Baloge. It was a tough competition. It is all the work of artisans, producers, market gardeners, all the commitment also of the people of Niort who voted for their market, we mobilized even more than usual. It’s well deserved.”

The Audruicq market in Pas-de-Calais and that of Louhans in Burgundy complete the podium.
