Swiss international Granit Xhaka even briefly took on the role of advisor for his friend Ricardo Rodriguez. “Nobody understands that the boy is free in the summer,” said Xhaka after the Swiss’ 1:1 (1:0) draw in the final European Championship group match against Germany, promoting his teammate. Full-back Rodriguez, like the Swiss’ entire defense, put in a good performance in Frankfurt on Sunday.
The clubs should pay close attention, said Xhaka with a smile. “Look at how he plays. He has to sign a long-term contract somewhere,” said the Swiss captain, who has been friends with Rodriguez for years.
Rodriguez’s contract with the Italian club FC Turin expires at the end of the month. Bundesliga fans know the now 31-year-old veteran primarily from his time at VfL Wolfsburg, for whom he played from January 2012 to summer 2017. After that, he also played for AC Milan and for six months for PSV Eindhoven.
