The summary of “A double murder in Belgium in 1979 and an accused arrested in Metz”
It was Christmas Eve 1979. The Distrimas supermarket in Messancy, just outside Arlon in Belgium, was invaded by crowds looking for the last gifts.
Emile Steffes and Fernand Federspiel show up a little before 11:30 a.m. They come, like every Monday, to collect the recipes from the previous weekend. They came out a few minutes later but had barely walked a few meters in the store parking lot when a gunshot rang out. Steffes collapses, his chest pierced by a bullet.
Then there’s a brief shootout. Federspeil falls in turn, hit in the legs. He is finished off with a gunshot to the back.
Aged 25 and 27, both married, they were the fathers of one and three children respectively.
