Champions League: Di Maria, the referee, Caio Henrique… Monaco's tops/flops

Thomas Siniecki, Media365: published on Wednesday November 27, 2024 at 11:55 p.m.

Discover our tops and our flops following Benfica's victory in Monaco (2-3) on Wednesday in the Champions League.

The tops

Angel Di Maria

The Monegasques had however warned, the best passer in the history of Saint-Germain was the main opposing danger in view of his record of service which has never been denied. And it didn't fail: if he didn't score, the former Madrilenian laid down the two caviars which gave Benfica a stunning victory at the end of the match.

Eliesse Ben Seghir

Taking advantage of a fantastic serve from Aleksandr Golovin, who could also have been cited in these tops, to open the scoring, the will-o'-the-wisp of the Monegasque attack confirmed its excellent form at the start of the season. Even if he also almost cost an equalizing goal with a bad restart in the same first period (37th).

Radoslaw Majecki

It was difficult for him to intervene on the last two goals, but if he was largely responsible for the first, he above all managed several saves which helped keep the ASM afloat throughout the match.

The flops

The referee

The Slovenian Mr. Obrenovic was very strange in his decisions, going so far as to issue a second yellow card for Wilfried Singo shortly before the hour mark (58th) while the first had been given in the first period following a challenge, while the Lisbonites multiplied very doubtful interventions and not even sanctioned with a warning. This is the first expulsion from ASM in C1 since 2017.

Caio Henrique

The Brazilian defender from ASM badly missed his match, first by missing his header giving Benfica the equalizer from the restart (1-1, 48th), then by being eaten up in the marking on the second goal.

Thilo Kehrer

For the former Paris Saint-Germain player, it is rather the third and final goal that is in question, but the German generally displayed the same excitement as his friend on the left wing. Too bad for the one who delivered the Monegasques during the previous day in Bologna (0-1).
