It seems to be the end of story for Jorne Spileers at Club Brugge. According to Het Laatste Nieuws, the young defensive talent, once seen as a promising power, can leave the Jan Breydel Stadium. A hard blow for the 20-year-old defender, who has had playing opportunities in recent years, but seems to have fallen out of grace under head coach Nicky Hayen.
Spileers, a youth product from Club Brugge, seemed to be on the road to definitively break through in the main force. Under previous trainers he regularly got minutes, but since Hayen’s arrival his situation has changed dramatically. He only plays a marginal role and is now even the fifth choice in defense. The recent arrival of Vince Osuji, a young defender with a lot of potential, seems to close the door for Spileers further.
Contrasting opportunities
It is striking that expensive acquisitions such as Zaïd Romero, who have made little impression so far, get more opportunities than Spileers. Since Hayen is in charge, Spileers played only 731 minutes, while by some he was considered a greater talent than Zeno, for example, Debast. It is therefore surprising that Club Brugge no longer offers its own youth product.
Club Brugge’s decision does not mean that the market value of Spileers – estimated at 3 million euros by Transfermarkt – will go unnoticed. In the summer of 2024 there was already concrete interest from FC Copenhagen. It is possible that clubs will turn again this winter or in the summer to take over the talent.
