Maëva and Martin, two young people aged 20, who had been wanted since Wednesday, were found dead this Thursday, January 23, in a garden in the small town of Saint-Martin-aux-Chartrains (Calvados), 9 km from at their home. And they were obviously killed.
“The first findings made on the two victims make it possible to establish that their death was of criminal origin,” explains the Caen public prosecutor, Joël Garrigue, reached by telephone this Thursday. One of the bodies has significant facial wounds and the other has marks likely to correspond to bullet holes. They will undergo an autopsy in the coming days. »
However, at this stage, adds the magistrate, “the circumstances in which these two young people were killed and the reasons why they were killed are not known and no hypothesis is excluded. »
The car found in a parking lot
The couple, who have lived together in Trouville-sur-Mer for two years, had not given any news since Wednesday at midday. They had, according to various consistent sources, left their home late in the morning by car, a gray and black Citroën C1, to go shopping.
Worried about not having news of the couple, the young woman's mother and other relatives alerted the gendarmerie, who quickly initiated significant search efforts in the surrounding area. Numerous calls for witnesses had also been launched by members of the family, via social networks.
-It was during this search that Maëva's car was found, locked, in a roadside parking lot, at a place called la Truite, in this town of Saint-Martin-aux-Chartrains. According to again converging information, the young woman's handbag was still in the car while the cell phones of the two young people were discovered in a trash can a few meters away. Their dog had also been found, wandering alone not far away.
An important gendarmerie system in Seine-Maritime
Given this clearly criminal dimension, the Lisieux public prosecutor's office, originally in charge of this case, transferred responsibility to the investigation department of the Caen judicial court and a judicial investigation was immediately opened against X on the charge of murder. . The investigations, and in particular the autopsies of the two bodies, will therefore continue in the coming days under the direction of an investigating judge.
At the same time, this Thursday, a large gendarmerie system has already been reported not only around the crime scene but also in Seine-Maritime, particularly in the area of Bolbec and Yvetot, where an individual, who could be the author of this double murder, seems actively sought.
