In search of a fifth victory in this group stage of the 2024/2025 Champions League, Stade Brestois, without ideas, logically lost to Chakhtior Donetsk in Gelsenkirchen in Germany, for the 7th day of C1.
Faced with a team which had only won one match before kick-off, Eric Roy's men never seemed able to match the Ukrainians. On the contrary, it was Chakhtior who struck quickly and hard from the start. After a first huge opportunity not converted by Eguinaldo (8th), it was Kevin Macedo, untenable against the Pirates, who opened the scoring. On a poor control from Brendan Chardonnet following a restart from Marlon, Kevin Macedo grabbed the ball and completed a 60-meter ride concluded with a flat right foot which deceived Marco Bizot (18th, 1-0).
Not satisfied, Marino Pusic's men did not take their foot off the gas and Eguinaldo, found deep, missed the break goal (31st). And by pushing, the Ukrainians were rewarded. Launched in depth, Azarovi was touched by Bizot in the area. A penalty that Georgiy Sudakov transformed with a sumptuous panenka touched by the Brest goalkeeper (37th, 2-0).
-A match to forget for Stade Brestois
We had to wait until the 40th minute to see Brest's first shot on target via Hugo Magnetti, too axial to worry Riznyk. The second period resumed on the same basis with Chakhtior very close to 3-0 if Bizot had not intervened in front of Sudakov (51st). Without ideas and constantly lacking precision, the SB29 failed to react despite the arrivals of Faivre, Del Castillo and Sima at the hour mark.
Only Pereira Lage with a floating strike from a free kick (79th), and Del Castillo tried (78th, 86th) but it was far too timid to hope for more. The bill could have been heavier if Zubkov had seen his goal validated in added time. A match to forget for Stade Brestois (11th, 13 pts) which will host Real Madrid at Roudourou for the last day of the group stage, January 29.
