Peter Sutherland responds to a call from the Night Action program
Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) is an FBI agent who works for the Night Action program and whose office is located in a basement room at the White House. As a reminder, it was after his heroism which made it possible to save dozens of innocent people from a bomb attack targeting the subway, a year earlier, that Peter met Diane Farr (Hong Chau) allowing him thus to access this famous opportunity.
While Peter's job is to monitor the Night Action line without anything ever happening, a single call will turn his entire life upside down. A young woman named Rose Larkin calls the line completely distraught after witnessing the murders of her uncle and aunt Emma (Simone Kessell) and Henry Campbell (William MacDonald), two Night Action agents – something Rose didn't know at the moment. Now that she knows the truth, Rose is in danger. In fact, the young entrepreneur saw the face of one of the assassins. As she only seems to trust Peter, Diane Farr entrusts the mission to the FBI agent to protect the young woman and lead her to safety. When they meet, Rose reveals to Peter that her uncle and aunt told her that there was a mole in the White House, someone who absolutely should not be trusted.
Chases and stalks
From the moment Peter and Rose are reunited, the two become targets for Rose Larkin's family assassins: Dale (Phoenix Raei) and Ellen (Eve Harlow). However, that doesn't stop the duo from their quest for the truth to find out why Rose's uncle and aunt were coldly murdered and who this famous mole in the White House is. After a few ambushes, Peter and Rose realize that there is indeed someone who seems to be communicating their every move to Dale and Ellen.
While at first, it is Hawkins who is suspected (Robert Patrick) – especially since we see him meeting the man who seems to be the boss of our two murderers – this lead is finally dismissed when he is found dead. Later, it is Diane Farr that Rose suspects. Nevertheless, Peter trusts his boss too much to suspect her, but, still having doubts, he will develop a stratagem in order to find out for sure about Diane Farr's loyalty. Ultimately, it appears that Diane Darr's phone was hacked, allowing the killers to track Rose and Peter each time.
Why were Rose's uncle and aunt killed?
After discovering hard drives hidden in a cottage belonging to her uncle and aunt, Rose tries to discover why her loved ones were the target of such a violent attack. Her search leads her and Peter to Lorna, a friend of the late agents. Lorna's revelations allow Peter and Rose to understand that her uncle and aunt were secretly investigating the subway bombing that Peter just managed to prevent. However, they will never be able to learn more from Lorna since the latter was ultimately murdered by Dale and Ellen.
Who orchestrated the subway bombing and why?
While from the beginning everyone thought that the subway attack was a “simple” terrorist attack, it turns out that it was intended to assassinate Omar Zadar (Adam Tsekhman), a foreign political leader with President Michelle Travers (Kari Matchett), who was ready to collaborate. Convinced that Zadar is not a trustworthy person, Vice President Ashley Redfield (Christopher Shyer) and businessman Gordon Wick (Ben Cotton) then planned the subway bombing. Unfortunately for them, it turns out that Peter was on the subway and saw Colin leave the bag containing the bomb, so he was able to react in time to save the passengers. It was then that a whole plot began within the White House to hide Redfield's actions.
What happens to Redfield's daughter Maddie?
We therefore know that it was Colin who planted the bomb in the metro. However, the question still arises as to why he decided to kidnap Maddie, Vice President Redfield's daughter. It turns out that after the attack, Wick had his men go to Colin's home to kill him in order to cover their tracks. And this is where they are going to make a very big mistake. They are not going to kill Colin, but Matteo, his twin brother. Heartbroken after the murder of his innocent brother, Colin decides to take his identity in order to make the whole world believe that he is dead. Subsequently, for months, he hatched a plan to blackmail Redfield so that the latter would take responsibility and admit his wrongs. Colin then decides to get closer to Maddie, Redfield's daughter, thinking that her kidnapping will push the Vice President to confess his misdeeds.
But what Colin didn't anticipate is that Ashley Redfield is focused on a project much more important to him than his daughter's life.
-Who is the White House mole?
Back to Redfield's shenanigans. In order to keep the honor of the White House and protect it, Redfield will drag Diane Farr into his conspiracies. Farr therefore finds himself working hand in hand with Wick and Redfield to hide everyone's involvement and find scapegoats to accuse. It was they who sent assassins to Emma and Henry Campbell in order to have them murdered. Clearly, it is Diane Farr who is the mole in the White House. When Peter finally finds out, the FBI agent falls several floors, he who had almost blind trust in Farr.
After the failure of the attack, Wick and Redfield want to attack Zadar once again. However, they add a new parameter to their plan: kill President Michelle Travers by planting a new bomb at Camp David during her meeting with Zadar.
Does President Travers die?
Fortunately, no! Thanks to Peter, Rose, Chelsea Arrington (Fola Evans-Akingbola) and Maddie Redfield (Sarah Desjardins), Michelle Travers is safe and sound and was not on board the presidential helicopter that exploded.
What happens to Redfield and Farr?
Redfield followed the attack as he took refuge in the Camp David bunker. His associate Gordon Wick is also alive and fled on board his plane. For her part, Diane Farr also survived the attack.
Peter becomes a Night Agent
In the final seconds of the season 1 finale of The Night Agentwe see Peter saying goodbye to Rose before boarding a plane.
Once installed in the jet, Agent Sutherland is given a tablet on which it is written “Night Action: Mission Brief”. In other words, Peter is no longer a simple FBI agent assigned to monitor the Night Action telephone line, but he now becomes a Night Action agent. However, there is no doubt that these new missions will make life difficult for Peter, who is so attached to rules and righteousness.
