Netflix explodes experts’ forecasts and exceeds 300 million subscribers

Netflix’s latest financial results are still just as insolent.

But who will dethrone Netflix? Obviously no one in the immediate future, as reflected in the streaming giant’s latest financial results. On the occasion of its Q4 (“quarter 4”, or “fourth quarter”), the service announced that it had exceeded 300 million customers worldwide… but also an upcoming increase in the prices of its subscriptions.

“It’s a Netflix world, and we just livin’ in it”

Experts expected figures around 9 million additional subscribers in the fourth quarter (October-December 2024). Netflix finally atomized these forecasts, and ultimately no less than 18.91 million new customers that the platform recorded during the period. A mind-blowing figure, which comes after having already added more than 5 million users during the previous quarter.

The end of the year is often conducive to an impressive jump in subscribers on the streaming service. For comparison, 13.1 million users joined Netflix in Q4 last year. These new results indicate an increase of 15.9% compared to 2023.

In detail, Netflix was able to count on 5 million new subscribers from Europe, 4.94 million from the Asia-Pacific region, 4.82 million from North America and 4.15 million from Latin America.

This therefore allows Netflix to total 301.63 million customers worldwide today, and to expand its lead with its main ones such as Prime Video (around 210 million subscribers), Disney+ (153.6 million) or even Max (110 million).

Note, as announced last April, that this is the last time that Netflix will provide its figures for new subscribers per quarter. The platform will reveal important milestones when they are franchised, but it will no longer be automatic.

The platform with the red N therefore consolidates more than ever its first place as a video streaming service in the world (excluding China). For this, it can thank its ever-popular advertising offer, and its many attractive end-of-year programs such as Squid Game season 2 or Carry-On.

In a letter to shareholders, Netflix said: “Our Q4 programming exceeded even our highest expectations: Season 2 of Squid Game is poised to become one of our most-watched original series seasons, Carry-On joined our Top 10 list of all time, the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight became the most streamed sporting event of all time and on Christmas Day we streamed the two most streamed NFL games of all time history”.

And the pace is not about to calm down in 2025, with the highly anticipated fifth and final season of Stranger Thingsseason 3 of Squid Gameseason 2 of Wednesday or the (wannabe) blockbuster The Electric State.
