Saccording to the New Obsthe arrest comes on the eve of a visit by French Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmanin, to the Emirate, suggesting a possible haste in his departure.
Arriving in Morocco on January 18, Maes was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by France since October 2023 for cases of violence and drug trafficking.
Installed in Dubai to, according to him, escape threats in his original neighborhood in Sevran (north-east of Paris), the rapper is the subject of severe accusations. “I left for Dubai after vehicles from my music video were burned by people jealous of my city […]. They tried to extort me, I told myself, but usually it’s me who does that to people (laughs)”, he explained in February 2023 to the specialized media Generations.
In June 2024, he was sentenced in absentia to 10 months in prison for violence that occurred in 2018. His legal situation is worsening with an investigation for kidnapping and sequestration launched in Morocco, his country of origin.
