A plane hits a paraglider and crashes on the roof of a chalet

Tuesday shortly before 5 p.m., a small plane crashed on the roof of a chalet in the Méribel resort, in Savoie. Its two occupants are dead. The chalet was not occupied.

The Savoie prefecture announced that the two deceased were men aged 26 and 58.

According to the “Dauphiné”, this dramatic accident was caused by a collision with two paragliders, who were flying in tandem. Was their sail damaged? Without further details for the moment on this “collision”, the public prosecutor of Albertville, Benoît Bachelet, indicated that the two paragliders were shocked, but “out of danger”.

It is specified that the intervention of the gendarmes and the emergency services on site is complicated because the small plane – an old Piper, obviously – is still embedded in the roof of the chalet, the structure of which could be weakened.
