Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra India launch tonight: 8 things to know

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series will finally arrive in India tonight as the launch event is set for January 22. The company is likely to announce three models in its 2025 flagship series – standard, Plus and Ultra. There have been rumours of a new Slim model as well, but it will reportedly to debut after a few months. Out of the three models, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is tipped to receive maximum upgrades in comparison to its predecessor. If you are planning to buy the upcoming Ultra version, here are 8 things that you should know based on the leaks so far.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra India launch tonight: 8 things to know

Any design changes?

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will continue to offer a phablet-style design. The leaks suggest that the new phone will have 2-3 major design changes. One is that the bezels around the screen will be more slim and the second one is that we could see rounded corners in the latest model. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is also said to have a slimmer profile (8.2mm) compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra and it should also feel lighter (219g), according to the leaks. Also, it might retain the IP68 rating. It is currently unknown whether Samsung will also add IP69 water-resistant support for better protection against water.

Display upgrades?

Another point to note here is that the Ultra’s display won’t receive a lot of upgrades, according to leaks. The new model will feature a slightly bigger screen – 6.9-inch instead of the 6.8-inch panel seen on the previous version. The rest of the display specs might remain the same. That means, you could see a QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive refresh rate of 1Hz to 120Hz. Old leaks have suggested that Samsung could offer higher brightness levels (3,000nits), but recent reports claim that it will be the same as S24 Ultra (2,600nits).

New chipset, cooling system?

As per the leaks, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will use Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. While we have already seen this chipset’s prowess, it will be interesting to see how well Samsung is able to deliver in terms of performance because every phone is optimised differently. Qualcomm has asserted that its latest chipset can deliver better performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 while also consuming less battery life. The chipmaker has claimed that the Oryon CPU on the Snapdragon 8 Elite can offer 44 per cent improvement in power efficiency and one will also notice a 40 per cent improvement in GPU.

Additionally, the Ultra model is said to offer a 42 per cent better cooling mechanism than its predecessor and the device is rumoured to use a vapour chamber system for better thermal management.

Bigger battery?

If we go by the recent leaks, the S25 Ultra will offer the same battery as its predecessor. So, you might see the same 5,000mAh unit under the hood. While it would have been great to see some upgrades in this area, the new flagship chipset is efficient and should offer longer battery life compared to the previous version.

Charging

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is said to come with faster wireless charging support, that is you might see 25W power support instead of 15W available on the previous version. 25W is still quite low because OnePlus is giving 50W support and the power users will likely require faster charging speeds, but this is still better than having 15W. As for wired charging, the company might retain the 45W power support on the new model as well.

Camera

We could see a big upgrade in the camera department if leaks are to be believed. The S25 Ultra is said to feature a new 50-megapixel Ultrawide camera, but the same old 200-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera. While the setup looks good on paper, it is also similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. There are chances that Samsung could use different camera sensors for a better imaging experience, something which we will only know about when the Samsung Galaxy S25 series goes official on January 22.

New AI features

Samsung is reportedly bringing several AI features with the Galaxy S25 series to improve user experience. AI might help prioritise important conversations and push their notifications to the top of the list. AI could also summarise messages directly in notifications. It is being said that notifications from the same source will be grouped automatically by AI.

Additionally, Samsung is introducing a smarter Bixby assistant with advanced natural language processing (NLP) capabilities. We could also see AI summarising YouTube videos and giving the option to save them in Samsung Notes. The Galaxy AI could also suggest apps, music, or directions based on your routine, like when you’re driving. Other features could also be introduced, but the details regarding the same are currently scarce.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra to receive a price hike?

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra was launched in India at Rs 1,29,999 and the new version isn’t expected to receive a price hike. The price of the Ultra model is already quite high and if the company wants to remain competitive in the market, it would be wise to offer it at the price of its predecessor. Apple also didn’t increase the price of its Max model and instead offered it at a slightly lower price. Moreover, Apple’s iPhone Pro models are being sold with massive discount offers for a few weeks now. So, if Samsung wants to have an edge over Apple, it should keep the prices aggressive while also offering a solid performance to users, a strategy which has worked wonders for brands like OnePlus.

Now, there are leaks claiming that Samsung is considering increasing the price of its Samsung Galaxy S25 series by a few thousand rupees in several markets, which also means that the brand could also introduce some bank offers at the launch to offer the new models at the price of Galaxy S24 series. But, nothing is confirmed. You can stay tuned to India Today Tech for all the updates.
