Dominant, from the first to the last point. Jannik Sinner strolled to the quarterfinals against Alex De Minaur. The key to a success that came in an hour and 48 minutes was revealed by the world number one, speaking to Jim Courier immediately after the match: “Today I felt everything, on days like these taking breaks straight away makes everything easier. He always competes great, I know many of you are here for him, but you were very sporting, the atmosphere was extraordinary. Matches like these can change in an instant, I’m happy with my performance.” And in a stadium that applauds him, Jannik explains that those tremors seen against Rune belong to the past: “Yesterday was a calm day, I dribbled for 40 minutes, my coaches warmed me up well. I’m young, I recovered quickly.”

SHELTON AND DJOKOVIC-ALCARAZ

In the semifinals, Sinner will face Ben Shelton. “We played tough matches last year, he is one of those who serves better, left-handed, the rotation of the ball is different from the baseline. I hope I can answer as much as possible and stay focused like I did today. And we hope it will be a good comparison for you too.” Jannik also dedicates a few words to yesterday’s quarter-final: “Djokovic-Alcaraz? An extraordinary match, a shame it came so soon. It’s the main rivalry on the circuit right now. There are other players arriving, let’s hope there are further rivalries.”
