Bologna vs Borussia Dortmund predictions
Bologna and Borussia Dortmund are two teams with contrasting fortunes.
Hosts Bologna are competing in European football’s elite competition for the first time since 1964/65. So far it is going horribly wrong.
The Italians have just two points from six matches. And with just one goal to boast, they are the lowest scorers in the competition.
The draws came against Shakhtar Donetsk (0-0) and Benfica (0-0). The losses were to Liverpool (2-0), Aston Villa (2-0), Monaco (1-0) and LOSC (2-1).
As a result of their four defeats and two draws, I Rossoblu is on the verge of being eliminated.
Even a win over Borussia Dortmund probably won’t be enough to keep their hopes alive ahead of Matchday 8. The best they can do is pick up eight points. And the three lowest teams in the Round of 16 playoff places already have that amount.
Despite this, the Italians are having a good run in Serie A, where they currently sit sixth.
The season did start slowly for Bologna and their new new head coach Vincenzo Italiano. The team won just once in Serie A in their first eight matches under Italiano, and the coach found himself under mounting pressure just weeks into his new role.
Italiano has turned his team’s domestic form around. They now sit just outside the Champions League places on 33 points from 20 matches.
Since the turn of the year I Rossoblu has secured credible draws against Roma (2-2) and Inter (2-2). And on Saturday they defeated struggling Monza 3-1 to make it three matches unbeaten in Serie A.
As for Borussia Dortmund, it is a complete role reversal. The Germans are struggling domestically, but flying high in the Champions League.
BVB sit in ninth place just outside the automatic qualifying positions for the Round of 16 in Europe. They are all but certain of a play-off place at the very worst.
The Black and Yellow have recorded wins over Club Brugge (3-0), Celtic (7-1), Sturm Graz (1-0) and Dinamo Zagreb (1-0). The defeats have come against Real Madrid (5-2) and Barcelona (3-2).
Domestically, Borussia Dortmund have been in a bit of a mess. At Signal Iduna Park, their Bundesliga record is six wins, two draws and one defeat. But on the road, Borussia Dortmund have been poor, winning just one of their nine matches and losing six.
Since the Bundesliga resumed, Borussia Dortmund has lost three from three. They started off with a 3-2 home defeat to Leverkusen. That setback was followed by road trip defeats away at Holstein Kiel (4-2) and on Friday, Eintracht Frankfurt (2-0).
The poor form has left Borussia Dortmund down in 10th place in the Bundesliga. They have 25 points from 18 matches and are seven points off the Champions League qualifying positions.
As a result, head coach Nuri Sahin has found his position under scrutiny, with talk of him being replaced by former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.
Sahin badly needs a result in Italy to help keep him in a job.
Bologna vs Borussia Dortmund betting tips
Bologna is unbeaten in their last three domestically, Borussia Dortmund is on a losing streak of three.
Going by domestic form, it should be a home win. But Borussia Dortmund are a far more experienced team in Europe, so we can see them finding a way to leave Italy with a share of the spoils. You can check more Bologna vs Borussia Dortmund betting tips below:
Draw
Bologna is in better form domestically, but their record in the Champions League has been appalling.
-A lot of their worst results did come earlier in the season when they were in poor form in Italy. But the Champions League home defeats to Monaco and LOSC did come during a good spell of Serie A form.

Furthermore, the Champions League is gone for Bologna. They are now playing for pride, and their focus may be on their domestic league more than it is Borussia Dortmund.
For their part, as bad as the Germans have been domestically in recent weeks, they are very experienced European campaigners. The draw or a win for Borussia Dortmund is 1/3 in the double chance market. That’s too short. So we are going for the draw outright.
⚽ Back the draw at 5/2 with Betfred ⚽
Riccardo Orsolini to score or assist
One of the reasons for Bologna’’s improved results in recent weeks has been the excellent form of Italian winger Riccardo Orsolini.
The 27-year-old has seven goals and four assists in Serie A this season. But more crucially, five goals and four assists have come in his previous ten matches, meaning he has averaged nearly one goal involvement in every match of that run.
Furthermore, Bologna has scored seven goals in their last three Serie A matches. Orsolini has directly contributed to that run with two assists and one goal in his last two matches.
Orsolini’s record suggests he blows hot and cold. At the moment he is hot.

Jamie Gittens to score
Jamie Gittens is the latest English star to be making a name for himself at Borussia Dortmund.
The 20-year-old is being linked with big money moves back to England, and this is because he is having an outstanding season at Signal Iduna Park.
Gittens has seven goals and four assists this season in the Bundesliga. He also has four goals and one assist in the Champions League.
Gittens has scored twice in three matches since the Bundesliga resumed in early January. He also has five goals and two assists in his last eight Bundesliga matches.
