Women’s giant slalom in Kronplatz

Gut-Behrami is second – but she looks at her skis in disbelief

2nd place, only 19 hundredths behind the leader Federica Brignone: Lara Gut-Behrami succeeded in the first giant slalom run at Kronplatz. And yet the woman from Ticino doesn’t seem to be completely satisfied; at the finish line she immediately looks at her skis in disbelief. He may have picked up something on the way, a stone for example. In any case, from the middle section onwards, Gut-Behrami slips around a bit, misses the ideal line several times, and so she squanders her lead of over four tenths.

The starting position is still promising for the 33-year-old, and her first giant slalom podium finish this winter is possible. The challenging slope in South Tyrol suits her; last year she was successful here with a lead of over a second – to this day she still describes that race as one of her best of her entire career.

Gisin follows again

The second run guarantees excitement anyway, as the gaps at the top are small. In third place is the Swede Sara Hector, the leader in the discipline World Cup, only 27 hundredths behind; Camille Rast from Valais is only seventh, but still has a chance of winning, only 57 hundredths behind.

Wendy Holdener shows a solid performance and seems to be making at least a little improvement in the giant slalom. In the first round, the woman from Schwyz finished 15th – if she stays in the top 15 in the decision (from 1.30 p.m. on our live ticker), she will secure a ticket for the World Championships in Saalbach in the basic discipline. Holdener sums up that from the middle part onwards she wasn’t brave enough, “but there are a few things that worked quite well”.

Vanessa Kasper (23rd) will also take part in the second run. Missing out on the top 30 was Michelle Gisin, who is currently lacking a lot: speed, self-confidence and, above all, good results. Without major errors, she loses 3.65 seconds.
