Two hours and 43 minutes! Here is ¦wiątek's rival in the quarter-finals of AO Tennis

Iga ¦wiątek is gaining momentum at the Australian Open. First she dealt with Katerina Siniakova, and then she went after Rebecca Sramkova and Emma Raducanu. On Monday she faced Eva Lys. And she also beat this opponent very well (6:0, 6:1). She has also already met the opponent she will fight in the quarterfinals.

Rollercoaster in Navarro's match against Kasatkina. In the first set, it was a war of nerves for the American

She was selected by the match between Daria Kasatkina and Emma Navarro. It looked like it would be a close fight, and it was. Suffice it to say that the tennis players started playing several minutes before Świątek and finished several minutes after it. Both ladies faced each other for the first time. In addition, they were close to each other in the WTA ranking – the American is eighth and the Russian is 10th. So it was difficult to pick a favorite.

Navarro started the match better because she took away her opponent's serve in the second game. She repeated this feat on the next occasion and led 4-0. It seemed that he was confidently heading for victory in the first set. But after a rather sluggish start to the competition, Kasatkina woke up. Effect? Two breaks in a row and a significant recovery. Kasatkina had a chance to equalize the score at 4:4, but she didn't take advantage of it.

The Russian lost on her own serve and a moment later her opponent was leading 5:3. In the ninth game, Navarro had four set points, but she lost each of them and was broken. But in game number 10, the American achieved her goal. She broke her opponent for the fourth time in this set, this time to zero, and won the game 6:4.

More twists and turns in the second set. Kasatkina returned to the game. And then came the third set…

Kasatkina started the second game better – because she broke her opponent. After a while, she kept the pass and led 2-0. Her joy, however, did not last long, because the American quickly equalized. And Navarro wasn't going to stop there. However, at 3:3 it was broken and Kasatkina took the initiative again.

But only for a short time. Although she was leading 4:3, the American was able to equalize and after a while she took the lead – 5:4. She was only a game away from victory. She had the opportunity on the Russian's serve. And that's four. Only she didn't use any of them. And this time it ended badly for her. In the 11th game, Navarro was broken and soon lost the set 5:7.

Thus, the fate of the match was decided by the third game, again full of twists and turns. Each player had problems keeping the pass. Evidence? As many as four breaks in the first six games. And when one took the lead, the other equalized after a while. The set went blow by blow.

The eighth game was the most even, in which Navarro had as many as seven break points. But she wasted it again (4:4). Just like Kasatkina in game number 11, when she had two chances to break. The missed opportunity took revenge on the Russian. In the next game it was broken, which resulted in Navarro's victory after almost three hours of fighting.

Therefore, Navarro will face Świątek in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. So far, tennis players have stood on the opposite side of the net only once. It happened seven years ago in Charleston. Then our compatriot was on top, clearly because she won 6:0, 6:2. The ladies competed on clay. Now they will compete on a hard surface.
