JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) -We’ve issued a First Alert Weather Day due to the dangerous cold expected from today through Wednesday.

Highs today will reach the mid to upper 30s, but it will feel much colder as the day progresses. Stay bundled up, as we expect the coldest conditions of the year this week. Tonight, temperatures will drop into the 20s, and we could see some snow on Tuesday. Highs tomorrow will remain well below freezing across much of central Mississippi, with 1-2 inches of snow possible in the Jackson metro area and along the I-20 corridor. The heaviest snowfall is expected south of I-20, where areas could see more than 2 inches.

Although weather models have been inconsistent, we’re closely monitoring the developing situation. We’ll track the surface low as it moves eastward.

Regardless of the exact snowfall amounts, we are certain to see some wintry precipitation. Please stay updated throughout Tuesday, as snow may begin in the morning.

Travel could be significantly impacted on Wednesday with temperatures remaining well below freezing, creating hazardous conditions.

For the I-20 corridor, expect 1-2 inches of snow; areas south of I-20 could receive 1-3 inches; and areas north of I-20 may see light dusting. Stay prepared and stay safe!
