As season 7 ends on Netflix, it's almost the end ofOutlanderwith a season 8 which will serve as a farewell to Claire and Jamie.
Between romance, history and fantasy, Outlander is a successful series that, unfortunately for fans, is coming to an end. Episode 16 of season 7 has just been posted on Netflix, this Saturday, January 18. Luckily, this isn't the last time you'll see Claire and Jamie. There will be a season 8, which will be the last.
Season 8 date
The original channel, Starz, has not yet revealed the broadcast schedule for season 8 ofOutlander. However, many indications suggest that the broadcast will take place in 2025, without a very long wait. First of all: filming has been completely completed since September 2024. Post-production is therefore well underway.
Furthermore, season 7 – divided into two parts however – began its broadcast in June 2024. A broadcast of season 8 during the summer of 2025, or at the start of the school year, is to be expected.
A shortened season 8
Outlander will end with a season 8 in short format, since there will only be 10 episodes. However, this does not make it the shortest season of the series, since season 6 fell to 8 episodes (while 7 goes up… to 16, Outlander will always have been irregular in this matter).
Which books are suitable?
The series Outlander is adapted from the literary saga by Diana Gabaldon. Until now, we can consider that the seasons more or less followed the volumes. On the other hand, for season 8, two books will have to be adapted in just 10 episodes: Written with my heart's bloodvolume 8, and Farewell to the beesvolume 9 (the latest). It's hard to know how the series will fare in such a short time, but it will certainly miss whole sections of the story as told in the books. Outlander will have to find its own coherence to complete the story while being up to the task.
A spin-off ofOutlander is it planned?
The good news is that the end ofOutlander is not the end of this on-screen universe. A prequel has been ordered, Blood of My Blood. It will focus on the parents of Jamie Fraser (in 18th century Scotland) and those of Claire Beauchamp (during the First World War). The casting is already known. On Jamie's parents' side: Harriet Slater will be Ellen MacKenzie, and Jamie Roy will be Brian Fraser. For Claire's parents: Hermione Corfield will be Julia Moriston while Jeremy Irvine will be Henry Beauchamp.
Ce spin-off d’Outlander will have 10 episodes. They will be broadcast on Starz in the United States, and it is a safe bet that Netflix will acquire the rights.
