Video Marianne Vos has gained a lot of confidence in the Benidorm World Cup. She came from the background and fought for a podium place until the last straight line, but fell just short of the podium of honor; Marie Schreiber came third and Vos fourth. “I am happy with the feeling in this cross,” is Vos’s conclusion CyclingFlits.
“It was a beautiful cross, in a beautiful setting. Even though it seems like it is a group, it is always full steam ahead,” emphasizes the experienced Visma | rider Lease a Bike, which saw teammate Fem van Empel win. “You have to sprint all the time and be careful in the corners. It is very intensive. Occasionally you have to recover in a corner, but then you have to pay attention.”
-Vos had a bad starting position and therefore had to work his way up to the leading group. “It was difficult to move up. You really have to fight to get to the front. That is also cross, that is also part of it,” she is realistic. After a week with a lot of road training, the round in Benidorm was a good match. “I think most of them have trained on the road, so you can benefit from that. But you also have to be able to deliver the power.”
“I am happy with the feeling in this cross. Fourth, that doesn’t say it all. There is no cross to compare, but I am happy with the feeling. Where do I stand then?” she asks herself. And is the World Cup title realistic? “Gosh, you can see that Fem has it under control and that Lucinda is in good shape. And Puck Pieterse is not there, but they have been calling the shots for a while. Behind that it is very close together, perhaps with a good day you can participate well.”
