The Jan Breydel Stadium was worried for a moment. A significantly changed Club Brugge team allowed Beerschot to return from 3-0 to 3-2 in the end. But the national champion did not give away the triple bonus and added a fourth goal just before the whistle. So it ended up being a relatively problem-free evening for Club.

Beerschot came to the impregnable Fort Jan Breydel with a small heart. With one point from ten away games, the bottom team had little hope against Club Brugge, but the visitors were still able to score a few goals in the beginning.

Club, which had started with eight fresh players in anticipation of the match against Juventus, was not worried. When Siquet’s cross stuck, Nilsson knew what to do with it. The Swede made it 1-0 in a controlled manner. A little later, Vetlesen was allowed to walk into the box and it was 2-0.

A third did not arrive before half time. The VAR reversed a penalty after an alleged handball by Reyners, and then the Bruges foot took its foot off the accelerator.

There was no movement in that foot for a long time in the second half. Only when Al-Sahafi squandered a chance to make it 2-1 did Club Brugge wake up again. Jutglà headed at Shinton, but then pulled off a magic trick. Vanaken was allowed to finish on the goal line.

Close the books and add three points, everyone thought. Not well, because after a miss by Mechele, Kosiah scored the 3-1 from the corner. Weymans made Jan Breydel sweat even more in added time with a fantastic bomb.

In the first round, the Rats had erased a double deficit against Club, but another stunt was no longer possible. Nilsson scored the 4-2 against the ropes at the very end, a more accurate representation of the class difference.
