Champions Cup – Notes from Treviso – La Rochelle: Gregory Alldritt was not enough, Kane Douglas inside

The Rochelais fell on the Treviso pitch, led by Rhyno Smith and Lorenzo Cannone. On the maritime side, if Tawera Kerr-Barlow and Grégory Alldritt tried everything, Kane Douglas and Alexandre Kaddouri were mishandled.

The tops

Rhyno Smith : 8/10

The South African full-back put in a great performance. With ball in hand, he was a constant danger due to his speed. His kicking game also allowed him to regularly put maritime defense under pressure. He took over from Tomas Albornoz in the penalty shootout, successfully, with the exception of a long-range penalty attempted too late.

After a back-and-forth that lasted the entire game, it was finally Treviso who defeated . The Maritimes, without any ideas, carried out a bad operation in the ranking: they will travel throughout the final phase.

Lorenzo Cannone: 9/10

Number 8 was everywhere: 55 meters gained, 15 charges, 15 tackles, 2 crossings. A high-class performance from the Italian international, in great shape ahead of the Tournament.

Kerr-Barlow distance : 6/10

The scrum half did not start the game on a good footing with a yellow card that can legitimately be described as severe and a forward under candlelight. But subsequently, the All Black recalled how much we could count on him in important meetings: he won an aerial duel which launched the sequence of the first try then he went for his double, full of mischief, on the relay from Uini Atonio then on a quickly played penalty. Good job.

Grégory Alldritt : 6/10

Number 8 is on an overall positive spiral. This Saturday, he found progress with ball in hand (40 meters gained), he played a lot behind him (4 offloads) and was again valuable on the ground (two scratches). This waste of energy has caused some waste with some progress but the ratio remains positive.

The flops

Alexandre Kaddouri: 4/10

We cannot criticize the left pillar for his commitment or deny his real qualities, like what he was able to show with ball in hand. But what indiscipline. During the first period, the young left pillar received four penalties: two in the scrum, a sector where Simone Ferrari and the transalpine right axis were dominant, two in the ruck phases. On a hazardous La Rochelle restart in the 22, his loss of the ball led to the first Italian try. His second period was cleaner. Note that he lasted the distance for 80 minutes.

Kane Douglas : 3,5/10

The Australian had too little impact on the debates this Saturday. We didn't see him with the ball in hand and he didn't seem dominant in obscure tasks either. His alter ego Thomas Lavault had a completely different contribution, in defense and in the air, one of his favorite areas.

Alessandro Garbisi

If he was enterprising, the scrum half was not very inspired this Saturday. He started by being blocked by Oscar Jegou, on an innocuous action, the flanker being a few meters away from sanctioning this clumsiness with a try. At the start of the second period, a chance jump intercepted by Dillyn Leyds on 22 meters led to the second maritime try. Too many errors of taste for an international.
