Borussia Mönchengladbach ended the first half of the season with a clear 1:5 defeat at VfL Wolfsburg. The need for compensation is all the greater – for which the home game against Bayer Leverkusen is of course even more suitable.

The two NRW clubs meet on Saturday evening, the top game of the day. The first leg that opened this season ended in a 2-3 defeat for the Fohlenelf. Florian Wirtz scored the winning goal for the Werkself late in stoppage time. Now the three points should be kept in Borussia Park.

Moritz Nicolas will be between the posts. The goalkeeper is an extremely important support for Borussia (90min reported). There will hardly be any changes in the back four compared to the Wolfsburg debacle: Joe Scally plays as a right-back, Nico Elvedi and Ko Itakura form the central defense. Lukas Ullrich should replace Luca Netz, who was weak against Wolfsburg, on the left side of defense.

In midfield it can be assumed that Gerardo Seoane will again rely on three players in the center. A line-up of Julian Weigl, Rocco Reitz and Philipp Sander would therefore be obvious. Florian Neuhaus, for example, still doesn't play a role and will be far away from the starting eleven.

This leaves two wing players and a center forward for the offensive. Since Franck Honorat is still out, Robin Hack and Alassane Plea will probably be Seoane's first choice. Tim Kleindienst is in attack after he had to sit out during the week due to a gastrointestinal infection.

Nicolas – Scally, Itakura, Elvedi, Ullrich – Weigl, Reitz, Sander – Hack, Plea, Kleindienst
