Germany’s best ski crosser Florian Wilmsmann has suffered a setback. The overall World Cup leader failed at the second World Cup in Reiteralm due to a fall in the semi-finals. In the end, he narrowly missed the podium in fourth place. Daniela Maier suffered a similar fate.
In addition to Florian Wilmsmann, Cornel Renn and Tobias Müller were also expected to make it to the semi-finals, but no DSV driver made it to the final. Of all people, the two Germans took each other out of the race. Wilmsmann and Müller got caught in the skis and fell.
So the Germans only had the small final. Wilmsmann won overwhelmingly. But he had nothing to do with the podium. The Frenchman Youri Duplessis Kergomard took the World Cup victory ahead of Simone Deromedis from Italy and the Canadian Kevin Drury.
-Tobias Müller came seventh, Cornel Renn crashed in the small final and ended up eighth.
Maier falls and loses his lead in the overall World Cup
Daniela Maier failed in the women’s semifinals. The Beijing Olympic bronze medalist jumped too high and landed in the safety net. She got tangled there. The images initially gave rise to fears of the worst. She had already torn a cruciate ligament on the Reiteralm in 2021.
Maier initially remained wrapped in the safety net, but was able to get up again on his own and drive to the finish. The 28-year-old qualified for the small final, where she finished third. In the end she came seventh and also fell behind India Sherret to second place in the overall standings.
The Canadian was at the top in the end and celebrated her second win of the season. She won ahead of the Swiss Fanny Smith.
