After months of rumors and radio silence, Nintendo finally lifts the veil on its new console, the Nintendo Switch 2.
Almost eight years after the release of the Switch, Nintendo finally lifted the veil on its new console on January 16, 2025.
This is the Nintendo Switch 2 which will be officially presented on April 2, 2025.
To mark the release of its new console, Nintendo will organize a series of events around the world, notably in Paris. They will be held from April 4 to 6, the company indicates on its site. Internet users will be able to register to try to participate in the Paris event from January 17 to 26.
A console always hybrid
It will therefore have the difficult task of succeeding the Switch, which has sold more than 145 million copies worldwide, thus approaching the historic record of the Playstation 2 (159 million units).
Until now, Nintendo had remained very discreet about this console. Only a tweet from May 2024 provided an official comment stating that the announcement would arrive “before the end of the fiscal year”, i.e. March 2025. Ultimately, the presentation arrived earlier than expected.

This new console retains the hybrid side of the Switch: you can therefore continue to use it in portable mode or directly on your television.
Inside, a chip designed with Nvidia, like for the Switch, but much more powerful, in particular to support the latest fashionable technologies, such as DLSS. This allows you to reduce the resolution to improve fluidity while refining the quality of the image.
The release is scheduled for the first half of 2025.
If Nintendo has announced the backward compatibility of Switch games (physical and digital versions with the Switch 2), the company specifies, in its video, that “certain Nintendo Switch titles may be incompatible or not fully compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2” , adding that “details will be communicated later on the website” on this subject.
