Sunday January 12, “Sept à Huit” broadcast a report telling the story of a woman named Anne, victim of a scammer – a scammer operating on the internet – posing as Brad Pitt and who defrauded her of 830,000 euros on social networks. Thanks to false documents, such as videos generated by artificial intelligence or even crude photo montages of Angelina Jolie's ex, the fifty-year-old believed in a love affair with the movie star.
After the report was broadcast, the story quickly made the rounds on social networks and the media until it ended up in the American press. “It’s awful that scammers are taking advantage of fans’ strong connection to celebrities,” Brad Pitt’s spokesperson said, according to Entertainment Weekly . He adds that this case serves as a reminder that it is “important not to respond to unsolicited online messages, particularly from actors who are not present on social networks.”

A wave of cyberharassment
Although this case sparked a large number of reactions on social networks and in the media, the victim was not spared. Numerous mockeries targeting Anne and her gullibility have been published on TikTok, or even Instagram, through videos intended to be humorous. This wave of cyberharassment prompted TF1 to delete its report, which had the primary objective of raising public awareness of online scams, from its replay viewing platform.
Heavily affected psychologically by this scam, Anne was hospitalized in a specialized establishment for serious depression, after making three suicide attempts, indicates the report broadcast in “Sept à Huit”. Tuesday January 14, the fifty-year-old reacted for the first time through a video broadcast on YouTube by the show LEGEND . “You cannot judge the way in which I fell into this scam (…) I am not crazy or stupid as some people say. I am not the only one in this situation,” defends the victim, before adding that the truth about this story will be revealed very soon.
