KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs will likely be getting a key defensive piece back for the Divisional Round against the Houston Texans on Saturday.

Defensive back Jaylen Watson is expected to make his return on Saturday after missing the last 11 games due to a fractured fibula and tibia he suffered against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7.

“I kind of want to see this week, see how he does. What I’ve seen so far, it’s been good. He’s in good shape. I’m not telling you he can play a whole game, but I think he has a chance of playing,” Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid said.

The Chiefs designated Watson to return from Injured Reserve on Jan. 3.

Watson was having a career year in his first year starting at defensive back next to All-Pro Trent McDuffie. He will look to pick up where he left off if he is able to return.

“I think he’s doing really well. I think he’s able to move around very well. You can tell that he’s still retained the information. He’s going out there and it doesn’t really look like he’s coming off of injury,” McDuffie said.

Even if Watson plays in a limited role, it could be a huge boost for the Chiefs secondary. Watson has the ability to provide stability to the second cornerback spot that has fluctuated between Nazeeh Johnson and Joshua Williams due to inconsistency.

The bye week paid dividends for the Chiefs, who were able to rest up and get healthy as everybody on the 53 man roster was able to practice in some capacity.
