After the freezing temperatures this morning, Météo-France has issued a yellow alert for snow and ice. Light drizzle could make the roads slippery tomorrow morning in the north of France. Which regions are affected?
Particularly freezing temperatures were recorded almost everywhere in France. If the -10 degree mark has been crossed in the north of the country, temperatures below -10 degrees were also observed in southwest France. In places, the values recorded this morning were almost 10 degrees below seasonal norms. The Mediterranean regions were not spared, with severe frosts. In the department of Hérault, the mercury locally approached -10 degrees!
Although the values recorded were very low and significantly below seasonal norms, we were still far from the cold records. No records were broken this morning. In a context of global warming, it is increasingly rare to break cold records. For illustration, in 2024, only 16 cold records have been recorded compared to 485 heat records, a ratio of 1 to 30!
A change in weather is expected over the next few hours. If extreme cold vigilance will be maintained in around twenty departments, we will also monitor the risk of icy conditions in the northeastern regions. Around fifteen departments have in fact been placed on yellow alert for snow and ice.
Why this vigilance? What should you expect? Which departments are involved? Find all our latest forecasts in this article.
Temperatures still negative next night
Thanks to a cloudier sky during the night, temperatures will rise sharply in the regions of the northern half. However, the values are expected to remain negative.
The heaviest frosts are expected where the sky will remain clear, that is to say in the south of France.
It is forecast tomorrow morning -8°C in Aurillac, -7°C in Clermont-Ferrand, -5°C in Toulouse, -4°C in Bordeaux and Bourges, Nantes, -3°C in Marseille, Montpellier, Le Mans, Rennes and Dijon, -1°C in Montélimar and Biarritz, 0°C in Perpignan and Brest, 1°C in Reims, 2°C in Rouen and Ajaccio, 3°C in Bastia and 4°C in Nice and Lille.
Arrival of drizzle on frozen ground
As previously indicated, Météo-France still maintains around twenty departments on extreme cold yellow alert between the Pays de la Loire and the Grand Est region. due to temperatures still strongly negative for the 3rd consecutive morning.
Météo-France has also placed around fifteen departments on snow-ice yellow vigilance. Indeed, the arrival of humidity from the north of France next night will cause some light drizzle. These drizzles could make the ground slippery due to still negative temperatures and frozen ground. You should therefore be very careful if you have to travel or travel between Yvelines, Essonne, Côte-d'Or, Haute-Saône and the north of the Grand Est region.
This humidity should reach the Pays de la Loire and Auvergne tomorrow afternoon, which announces a more mixed second part of the week in the north of the country with a very random dissipation of this humidity over the hours.
