The Socialist Party wants to freeze the retirement age of 64 provided for by the pension reform, to reduce it to 62 years and six months. But at what cost?

In a company in , four seniors are wondering: will they be able to retire earlier? The finishing manager was born in 1964, he was due to leave at 63, but could leave a little earlier if the pension reform is suspended. In detail, the Socialist Party is calling for a freeze on the legal retirement age, at 62 years and six months.

The boss is for it, but the company should adapt: “Every year, we have rules that change, administrative, social rules… (…), but if it can give comfort to employees it will already be a magnificent thing”comments Philippe Ledrans, director of the company.

But what will be the consequences for public finances? According to the government, a freeze at 62 years and six months could cost around 500 million euros in 2025, and 3 billion euros in 2027 if the suspension lasts.
