At the beginning of August 2024, Maria Höfl-Riesch and Marcus Höfl announced their separation. Now – just around five months later – the former dream couple is already divorced.
“After careful consideration and with a heavy heart, we have decided to go our separate ways privately in the future,” explained Maria Höfl-Riesch, 40, and Marcus Höfl in a joint statement on Instagram on August 6, 2024. The ex-couple emphasized that they wanted to “remain connected both professionally and as friends” and discussed the “wonderful times” they were able to enjoy together.

Only around five months later, the marriage of Maria Höfl-Riesch and her husband is history on paper. As Marcus Höfl made clear to the tabloid on January 13, 2025, their divorce – like the separation last summer – was peaceful. On behalf of his ex-wife, he explained: “On the one hand, the end of our marriage is of course not nice. On the other hand, we are both very grateful for fifteen wonderful years together.” Höfl continues:
Most of it was great. We are both happy that we are parting harmoniously as a married couple. We will remain connected, both as friends and professionally. This is important to both of us.
According to the newspaper’s information, the divorce took place on Thursday, January 9th, in the Kitzbühel district court.
Höfl-Riesch on separation: “It was and is painful”
As harmonious as her divorce was, behind the scenes the ski racer was struggling with the consequences of her decision. Höfl-Riesch made it clear to GALA in November 2024: “The separation from Marcus was and is painful.” Nevertheless, she added immediately afterwards: “I’m very happy that we’re on good terms with each other and can turn our relationship into a friendship. At least at the moment everything looks that way. We still have so much in common with each other.”

When love turns into friendship
Maria Höfl-Riesch and Marcus Höfl were a couple for a total of 15 years. In addition to their private relationship, both of them also worked together professionally for years. She achieved various successes as a professional athlete, including her three Olympic medals. As a sports manager, he made sure everything ran smoothly behind the scenes.
What started out as a professional relationship turned into love in 2010. Just a year after Höfl-Riesch and Höfl made their romantic relationship public, they celebrated their wedding. On April 16, 2011, the athlete and the manager married in Going, Austria. The sun shone that day – and it still shines a little today, more than 13 years later.
