Trained in Nanterre where he started at 15 in the Eurocup then in Pro A, Victor Wembanyama joined ASVEL in 2020, a club managed by Tony Parker, the former French basketball star. The project was then clear: lead the young Frenchman to the NBA. But a few months later, the player finally decided to leave ASVEL to return to the Paris region in Boulogne-Billancourt. “I know it wasn’t an easy time for him and for me, but in the end I know he only wants the best for my future. He understood my decision. I know I made the best decision but I am grateful for the time spent at ASVEL,” he commented.
