The Duisburg water police are returning. From February, Torsten Sträter will bring a breath of fresh air and charming humor to the ARD series.

Duisburg – With his distinctive beanie hat and his sharp sense of humor, Torsten Sträter regularly conquers the stages and screens of Germany. But in the coming season of the popular ARD series “WaPo Duisburg”, the poetry slammer and cabaret artist surprises with a new role debut – and brings a breath of fresh air to the investigations surrounding the Duisburg harbor.

“WaPo Duisburg” continues: Torsten Sträter joins the ARD series

From February 11, 2025, “WaPo Duisburg” will start with two new seasons. Viewers can expect a total of 16 episodes of the water police, broadcast every Tuesday at 6:50 p.m. on Erste and in the ARD media library. The team led by Gerhard Jäger (Markus John) then begins investigating exciting cases between container ships and industrial halls.

The opening promises thrills: a body is discovered on a tanker. The man apparently died from toxic gases in the hold, but it remains unclear whether it was an accident or murder. Evidence of criminal activity raises questions – and the team has to quickly work their way into the dangerous case.

ARD crime thriller with Dortmund comedian: reinforcements for the Duisburg investigators

In addition to the well-known main actors, including Markus John, Yasemin Cetinkaya and Romy Vreden, new faces strengthen the ensemble: Bianca Nawrath and Timmi Trinks bring fresh impulses to the investigative group (read more TV news at RUHR24).

But the biggest surprise remains Torsten Sträter, who takes on a guest role in the ARD crime series. The Dortmund comedian not only received an extraordinary award, but also made a name for himself as an author and satirist.

Torsten Sträter: From slammer to ARD actor

Torsten Sträter’s path to television was unusual. Originally a trained men’s tailor, he later worked as a cell phone salesman before discovering his passion for writing and the stage. He now clearly feels comfortable there and has been part of numerous shows, including the Bundesvision Comedy Contest on ProSieben.

With his biting humor and pointed stories, he secured a loyal fan base before finally arriving on German television with his own TV formats such as “Sträter’s Men’s Household”. Now he is taking the plunge into acting and bringing his distinctive style to “WaPo Duisburg”.
