January 12, 2025 (change at 8.10pm) – BOLOGNA

A penalty from Dovbyk in the 98th minute prevented Roma from defeat, with Bologna furious at the end, when they were already anticipating victory. At Dall’Ara it ends 2-2 and everything happens in the second half, after a first half where the emotions came in slowly. First the goal from the former player, Saelemaekers, then the goals from Dallinga and Ferguson (also from the spot), finally the equalizer from Dovbyk. Roma is breathing, Bologna is furious.

few emotions

Italian prefers Odgaard for Fabbian, Ranieri instead confirms the eleven that won the derby a week ago. The rossoblù’s match plan includes high pressure and man-marking on Paredes (Odgaard) and Hummels (Dallinga) from deep, in order to remove the sources of play for the Giallorossi who are under construction. Ranieri instead aims to spread out, especially exploiting Dovbyk’s plays, who almost always plays with his back to goal. Bologna effectively wins the match, but apart from an initial burst from Dallinga (sudden shot, with Svilar doing well in the corner) and a final shot from Dominguez, the Emilians create few dangers towards the opponent’s goal. Some sleight of hand on the left by Dominguez himself, which doesn’t correspond to the same thing on the other side, where Ndoye gets lost almost immediately. And so, paradoxically, Roma have almost all the best actions, from the half hour onwards: first Dovbyk misses the right moment (providential save by Beukema), then Skorupski makes a double save on Paredes from outside and on Dovbyk himself, finally Dybala misses high from an excellent position, face to face with the Polish goalkeeper. Shortly before, among other things, Miranda (already booked) had taken a huge risk on Saelemaekers, with a contact in the penalty area for which the Giallorossi claimed the penalty.

question and answer

But if the first half is short on emotions, the second half is crackling. Koné immediately tries, imitated shortly afterwards by Freuler from outside. But it is from 13′ to 18′ that the game lights up, with three goals in 5 minutes: first Saelemaekers scores the ex’s classic goal with a shot from outside which Skorupski misses, then Dallinga equalizes the score after a sparkling restart by Dominguez and finally Ferguson fixes the result at 2-1 on a penalty awarded due to a hold by Pellegrini on Odgaard (but in the same action shortly before there had also been a foul by Koné’s hand on Holm’s header). In short, an almost unexpected back and forth, considering the moderate apathy of the first 45 minutes of the game. And then, with Roma unbalanced in the hunt for an equaliser, important opportunities and spaces open up for Orsolini (who has just come on), with Svilar then doing well in the corner following an attempt by Odgaard. Ranieri tries to change everything a bit with El Shaarawy, Pisilli and Celik, switching to 4-2-3-1, then also bringing in Baldanzi and Zalewski. And the equalizer comes right at the last attack: Angelino’s corner, and Lucumì’s hands on Ndicka’s header. VAR calls Abisso, Dovbyk takes the spot and makes it 2-2 in the eighth minute of injury time. It ends with Dall’Ara furious and Roma avoiding a defeat that would have been very painful.
