More than half a minute ahead: top talent Lars Peers dominates BK cyclo-cross among first-year newcomers
The second day at the Cyclo-Cross Championships in Heusden-Zolder opened with a bang by Lars Peers. He won the national title with superiority among the first-year newcomers. The Kempen native already had a bonus of more than half a minute after two rounds.
Almost everywhere he started in the field this season, it was a prize for 14-year-old Lars Peers. It was therefore no surprise that he won the Belgian Championship among the first-year newcomers early.
After just one – albeit very fast – lap in Zolder, he had already left the competition well behind him. From a 15 second lead it went to half a minute and more.
Peers can now also add a glorious Belgian title in cyclo-cross to his impressive record in the youth series. And the top talent can excel in several areas.
He is the reigning European champion in mountain bike, more specifically in short track. Lars Peers, we remember the name.
In the final round, Tijl Vanhaverbeke and Mathiz Tielens were allowed to decide among themselves who would take the silver medal. Tielens proved to be the strongest in that match, Vanhaverbeke consoled himself with bronze.
