As tensions between Paris and Algiers increase, the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, denounced “an anti-French feeling”, used as “an internal political gain” in Algeria, in defiance of the fight against terrorism.
In a long interview given to Journal du Dimanche, Sébastien Lecornu spoke of the crisis between France and Algeria. The Minister of the Armed Forces regretted the position of “part of the Algerian political class”.
“We can no longer tolerate attacks against France being used as internal political gain by part of the Algerian political class,” he declared, denouncing “anti-French sentiment”.
For the Minister of the Armed Forces, this positioning of Algiers in the face, in particular, of the continued detention of Boualem Sansal and the dismissal of an Algerian influencer who made threats on our soil is regrettable.
“I regret it because it contradicts the interests of Algiers and the interests of Paris of several kinds, particularly in the fight against terrorism,” he explained.
Indeed, the Minister of the Armed Forces has advanced an increase in mortality linked to terrorism in the Sahel since the withdrawal of French troops.
There is no plan in which, on the ground, military, intelligence or counterterrorism, we do not need good coordination between Algiers and Paris, as between Rabat and Paris,” concluded Sébastien Lecornu.
