Vanessa Voigt will not take part in another race at the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof. The start in Ruhpolding next weekend is also in danger.
There were bitter scenes that took place on Thursday (January 9th, 2025) at the sprint race in the Thuringian Forest. Local hero Vanessa Voigt crossed the finish line in her sporty living room completely exhausted and behind. As 68th, she missed the pursuit race on Saturday anyway, but it is now clear that Voigt will no longer be used in Oberhof.
Start in Ruhpolding uncertain
“Unfortunately, it seems that the illness over the holidays hit her much harder.”said biathlon sports director Felix Bitterling on Saturday morning that he would not be taking part in any further events. Whether Voigt will return to Ruhpolding next weekend will be decided by Wednesday at the latest. “Even if it’s bitter, we don’t want to endanger the rest of the season – especially the World Cup.”so Bitterling.

The multiple Olympic and World Cup medalist had recently been lying low with fever and body aches, but didn’t want to miss the home World Cup and decided to start in the sprint. But the strength wasn’t enough. In constant rain and difficult conditions, Voigt collapsed and had to be supported by carers after the race, which she finished 3:38.2 minutes behind surprise winner Paula Botet.
Voigt will now have one “compact training block” insert and “train calmly but consistently”so Bitterling.
