Celebrating 50 years of ASEAN partnership

The official logo marking the 50the anniversary of the ASEAN-New Zealand Dialogue Partnership (1975-2025) was officially unveiled at a ceremony held on January 9 at the ASEAN Secretariat headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The event was organized by the New Zealand Mission to ASEAN, in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat and the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to ASEAN. Currently, Vietnam serves as coordinator of the ASEAN-New Zealand dialogue partnership.

At the event, Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to ASEAN, highlighted that New Zealand is one of the bloc’s long-standing and trusted partners. Since the establishment of dialogue relations in 1975, these relations have continued to strengthen in all areas, reflecting common interests and responsibilities for peace, stability and prosperity in the region, she said. .

She affirmed that as coordinator of ASEAN-New Zealand relations, Vietnam is committed to working closely with other ASEAN members and New Zealand to achieve substantial results this year. This will contribute to strengthening the bloc and deepening ASEAN-New Zealand relations, with the aim of establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership by the end of the year.

In his speech, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn hailed the 50 years of ASEAN-New Zealand partnership, which has generated significant advancements in various areas of regional cooperation.

The commemorative logo, presented during the ceremony, symbolizes the strength, resilience and solidarity of the ASEAN – New Zealand partnership, while reflecting the trust and mutual respect that underpins these bilateral relations.

New Zealand’s Ambassador to ASEAN, Stuart Calman, reiterated that cooperation with ASEAN brings significant benefits to both sides. He added that ASEAN remained a major priority for New Zealand and their relationship was progressing towards a comprehensive strategic partnership.
