Winter weather impacts due to a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will be likely after midnight tonight and continuing through about 9am Friday. Precipitation enters west Alabama around midnight and spreads eastward through the overnight period. The morning drive will be impacted and there could be hazardous driving conditions due to the wintry precipitation.   The threat area will run roughly along and north of the US80/I-85 corridor.  Elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses would be impacted and caution is advised when traveling over them.  Some roads may even become icy, especially in the winter weather advisory area.  The counties in our area under the winter weather advisory include: Autauga, Greene, Hale, Perry, Sumter, Chilton, Coosa, Elmore, and Tallapoosa.  In the advisory area, snow accumulation will range from a trace up to 1-inch and a potential ice accumulation around a tenth of an inch. For the rest of the area, temperatures will gradually climb through the late morning hours Friday and we expect mainly a cold rain throughout the afternoon.  Looks like rainfall potential could reach up to 1-inch across parts of South Alabama. The impacts from this wintry weather event will be far greater across North Alabama. Travel will definitely be hazardous across that part of the state through the upcoming weekend. We expect mainly sunny and cold conditions around our area.  There are signs this cold weather pattern continues for the next couple of weeks.
