Asked about the San Antonio Spurs’ first steps in Paris in the wake of their star Victor Wembanyama, his teammate Chris Paul was amused by the Frenchman’s obsession with the charms of the capital.
If the city of Paris is one day looking for an ambassador, it has a candidate of choice in the person of Victor Wembanyama. Arriving in the capital escorted by his entire San Antonio Spurs team to play the NBA Paris Games, two regular season matches against the Indiana Pacers, the Blues pivot has clearly given himself a mission: to convert his teammates to the charms of the Parisian life.
Starting this Monday evening, the French alien invited them all for a dinner in a restaurant of their choice, just to introduce them to French gastronomy. “He absolutely wants us to experience his French life while we are in Paris, explains Spurs leader Chris Paul at a press conference this Wednesday. Go and see where he played when he was little, taste a whole bunch of dishes … It’s really cool. The dinner we shared at the restaurant was a great time, it really made us feel at ease.”
“He knows a whole bunch of historical stuff.”
But the efforts of the number 1 in the 2023 draft to convince his teammates of the beauty of France do not stop in the culinary field alone. On the Spurs bus, on the way to training, Victor Wembanyama improvised…tour guide.
-“Victor kept telling us ‘look how beautiful it is!’,” laughs Chris Paul.
“He’s very mature for his age, very intelligent. He knows a whole bunch of historical stuff: when the Louvre was built, why it was built… I guess since I’m older, I appreciate that particularly,” concludes the twelve-time All-Star point guard.
It is now up to Spurs to convert this energy into resounding victories, just to give themselves the opportunity to discover the hot spots of Parisian nightlife to celebrate them.
