Will the new features be similar to the Model 3 Highland (which we recently tested in performance version) or will Tesla take the opportunity to introduce some interesting functions? These first images give us some answers but above all a lot of questions!
The 2025 Tesla Model Y without camouflage!
These photos were apparently taken in the North-East of China, during winter tests, as many manufacturers regularly carry out. : driving on snow, resistance to cold, consumption… Tesla is used to testing its vehicles in extreme conditions, particularly because the cars are used in many Nordic countries or with harsh winters.
The images are therefore a priori authentic, especially since they confirm recent rumors of this face-lift
: the Model Y should sport a more prominent rear, with TESLA written in full, and a light strip that runs across the entire width of the tailgate.
At the front, the modifications seem much more spectacular, with very fine lights, and an LED strip reminiscent of the Cybertruck or the recent Cybercab. This could give some character back to a vehicle that has almost become too common.
Ultimately, it is in profile that the changes are least visible.Tesla using most of the current elements – the integrated handles, the position of the sensors, the shape of the windows, the wheel arches… nothing changes… a priori!
Comodos, Steer By Wire, Volant carré ?
Another photo recently appeared on the web, it is a possible interior of Model Y 2025:

We therefore see part of the driving position of a hypothetical Model Y 2025 “Juniper”, in which the comodos seem absent, but the steering wheel would be taken from the Cybertruck, with a slightly square
. Some then imagine that the Model Y could go to Steer By Wire
like on Elon Musk’s big 4×4: the steering wheel is then disconnected from the wheels, which makes it possible to limit the angle of the steering wheel, especially at low speed. This also solves the problem of the absence of comodos, since the buttons on the steering wheel remain accessible even in roundabouts or maneuvers.
Still, the image may be fake: it seems (according to some) that it is more of a Model 3 Highland with a Cybertruck steering wheelpurchased on the parallel market (it exists), but nothing is really confirmed.
One more thing ?
Beyond the style, rumors have mentioned some interesting possibilities in recent months, such as the move to a 48V battery, controlled suspensions, a slightly larger battery (90 kWh?), a larger central screen…
In China, the 7-seater versions are very popular, but the Model Y is not very welcoming for passengers in the 3rd row, a variation available for less than a year in Europe and China. Some had mentioned an extended version, and even proposed in 6 seats, specifically for the Middle Kingdom.
Quite honestly, I think Tesla will remain quite conservative on this version. The aim is to reduce costs and therefore, to maintain as many common elements as possible with the current Model 3. Unlike Apple, the manufacturer does everything to obtain ever more competitive prices compared to competition for equivalent services. But you never know, Elon Musk has more than one trick up his sleeve!
