Adelboden: Tight schedule motivates slalom riders

The slalom riders experience a week with a lot of program. The race took place in Madonna di Campiglio on Wednesday evening. The strenuous race was followed by a seven-hour drive to Adelboden on Thursday morning, followed by a media appointment. On Friday we prepare for the slalom at Chuenisbärgli and on Saturday the athletes are back in the starting house. A pretty tight schedule.

Due to the weather-related race swap, the racers have one less day between the two slaloms. The change is a big topic among fans. And with Meillard, Yule and Co.? Almost none at all.

“For me, swapping races doesn’t matter. We athletes are used to program changes,” says Daniel Yule. “I would have been in Adelboden on Saturday anyway, so it doesn’t make any difference to me.” Yule also doesn’t care much about the fact that the weather on Saturday will be worse than on Sunday. “We slalom riders are used to skiing in all weathers,” he says and laughs.

When asked what has changed in preparation due to the adjusted program, Loïc Meillard answers: “Nothing at all” and also has to smile.

“I can still feel my legs a little bit from the race, but I was already back on the bike and in physio,” says teammate Yule. “Tomorrow I will get up and feel fit again.” Luca Aerni likes the tight schedule. “It’s actually cool that we had a race on Wednesday.” That made me hungry for more, explains the 31-year-old.

After Adelboden the athletes would have time to recover. «At the beginning of the week we have time to wind down. I will definitely go out into nature and enjoy my free time,” says Aerni. However, the ski racers cannot keep their feet up for too long. The next classic race is already coming up: the Lauberhorn is waiting.
