The first title of the year will be contested in the coming days, as Barcelona seeks redemption after last season’s final, where they suffered a heavy defeat.
In just a few days, the name of the champion of the first title of 2025 in Spanish football will be known, which, as has been customary in recent years, is the Supercopa de España. Since the format change in 2020, when it began to be played in a Final Four format, this tournament has become the kickoff of the football year in our country, and Barcelona will be in the final for the third consecutive year.
From the 1980s until 2017, this tournament pitted the reigning champions of La Liga and the Copa del Rey in August, at the start of the season, in a two-legged match. In 2018, it was held for the first time as a one-off match outside of Spain, where Barcelona triumphed over Sevilla in Morocco.

There was no Supercopa in the summer of 2019 due to the introduction of the new format, and it was held in January 2020, featuring the league and cup champions and runners-up in Saudi Arabia. Since then, five editions have been played under this format, with Real Madrid emerging as champions in three of them, and Athletic and Barcelona each claiming the title once.
-Hansi Flick’s team was the first to reach the final after a convincing 0-2 victory over Athletic Club, the reigning Copa del Rey champions, in the semifinal on Wednesday, with goals from Gavi and Lamine Yamal. The second finalist will be known in just a few minutes, when the semifinal between Real Madrid and RCD Mallorca concludes.
