Much loved presenter Lauren Laverne has announced she’ll be stepping down from presenting the BBC 6 breakfast show.

Lauren said it had been “a huge honour – and so much fun – to host the breakfast show for six wonderful years,” but that it was time “to pass the baton on, and to set my alarm a little later.”

But don’t worry, Lauren won’t be disappearing, as she’ll instead be launching a new mid-morning programme on weekdays. The show will feature live music sessions as well as popular regular slots, including her Desert Island Disco and People’s Playlist.

Last year, Lauren took a step back from presenting while she underwent treat for her cancer diagnosis. Speaking about her decision to leave the 6 Music breakfast show Lauren said she’d had, “a really tough 2024 and worried at times that I wouldn’t be able to return to the station I love so much.”

The presenter said that while she was away she was reminded about just how important music, the support of loved ones and the radio can be for people.

“During my recovery I learned all over again about the power of music, the people you surround yourself with and the emotional support and joy radio can provide,” she said. Lauren added that she was “so grateful to be able to get back to doing what I love and sharing those things with our brilliant listeners every day.”

Nick Grimshaw will be taking over the BBC 6 Music breakfast show, having been leading the show in Lauren’s absence over the past four months. The new schedule, including Lauren’s new mid-morning show, launches in February.
