What is a Supermoon?
In November the full moon is particularly close to Earth and is therefore called a supermoon.
The lunar cycle briefly explained
The lunar cycle is the change in the visibility of the Moon from Earth. The phases of the moon begin with the new moon. The side of the moon facing the Earth is in shadow and cannot be seen with the naked eye. Then the moon increases steadily until it shines completely in the sky as a full moon.
The moon’s visibility then decreases again until the cycle begins again. A lunar cycle lasts about 29.5 days and not only influences the tides, but has always had a deep fascination for people – culturally and mythologically.
