The most closely monitored inmate in France, currently incarcerated at Vendin-le-Vieil prison in Pas-de-Calais, was placed in police custody for several escape plans. Investigators from the Versailles judicial police are currently hearing Rédoine Faïd, a repeat robber, in the prison premises.

He has been heard by investigators since 9 a.m., this Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Rédoine Faïd, the best known and most monitored prisoner in France, was placed in police custody in the ultra-secure prison of Vendin-le-Vieil in Pas-de-Calais where he is currently serving his sentence.
According to our information, it was investigators from the SRPJ of Versailles who made the trip in the early morning to question the detainee. “His custody takes place on site, in the penitentiary establishment”, confirms a union source. His cell was searched.
Rédoine Faïd was placed in police custody for several escape plans, specify our RTL colleagues, including one in 2023 when he was incarcerated at Fleury-Merogis prison, in Essonne.
Born in Creil in the Oise, Rédoine Faïd is now 52 years old. Guilty of armed robbery and specialized in attacking armored vans, he has already escaped from prison twice.
On April 13, 2013, the criminal escaped from Lille-Loos-Sequedin prison using explosives and after taking 4 prison officers hostage. Arrested a month and a half after his escape from a hotel in Seine-et-Marne, he returned behind bars.
On July 1, 2018, he escaped by helicopter from Réau prison in Seine-Maritime, helped by three hooded accomplices armed with assault rifles. Rédoine Faïd will be arrested 3 months later in his town of Creil.

Rédoine Faïd has already spent more than 11 years in solitary confinement. In 2024, he asked for better detention conditions. Request refused by the Douai Court of Appeal on December 2, 2024. On December 9, 2024, the repeat robber began a hunger strike to denounce these conditions of incarceration. He finally suspended her 5 days later. The end date of Rédoine Faïd's sentence is currently set at 2057.
