Repeat robber Redoine Faïd was taken into police custody on Tuesday for escape plans, we learned from a source close to the case and from the Paris prosecutor's office, confirming information from RTL. He was placed in police custody in Vendin-Le-Vieil prison (Pas-de-Calais) where he is currently incarcerated. The investigation was entrusted to the Yvelines judicial police, who traveled to interview the former robber, already the author of several high-profile escapes, at his place of detention.
The Paris and Junalco public prosecutor's office (National Jurisdiction for the Fight against Organized Crime) opened a judicial investigation on September 9, 2021 for criminal conspiracy with a view to preparing crimes or offenses punishable by 10 years of imprisonment (in l (particularly escape into an organized gang, and crimes and offenses supporting the realization of this criminal project). This judicial information was extended over a period until May 2023, said the prosecution.
One of the escape projects dates back to 2023 when Redoine Faïd was incarcerated at Fleury-Mérogis prison (Essonne). He was then awaiting trial for a successful escape in July 2018 from Réau prison (Seine-et-Marne).
Hunger strike
On December 21, Rédoine Faid ended her hunger strike that began on December 10 to demand the lifting of her solitary confinement, AFP learned from the prison administration. Redoine Faïd demanded “normal” visiting rooms, without a hygiaphone, as well as access to family living units, said a union source from FO Pénitentiaire. His request to lift this regime was rejected on December 2 by the sentence enforcement chamber of the Douai Court of Appeal, which found that Redoine Faïd was not suffering from unworthy conditions of detention. Aged 52, Redoine Faïd has already spent more than eleven years in solitary confinement.
Rédoine Faïd was sentenced in October 2023 to 14 years of criminal imprisonment by the Paris Assize Court for his spectacular escape by helicopter from Réau prison in July 2018. He was already serving long sentences for robberies, including the one cost the life of a municipal police officer, and a previous escape in 2013. Before his last conviction, his sentence was scheduled to end in 2046. The confusion sentences do not exist for escapes, it could be extended to 2060, excluding sentence reduction.
