JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – With the potential for heavy snow in Region 8, you’ll probably start seeing more road crews soon.
Local departments are already getting ready to prepare the roads for this week’s snow.
“What we’re hearing is that it’s mostly going to be a snow event, and we are usually pretty good about being able to do the snow removal,” said Adam Followell, the Paragould Public Works Director. “The main thing we’ll focus on is our main traveled areas. Get those cleaned off first and then start moving into our residential areas.”
Dave Park, Public Information Specialist for the Arkansas Department of Transportation, said crews will be putting salt brine on the roads in the next couple of days.
“What that does is that begins to kind of form a layer of protection if you will. It makes it tougher for the roads and anything that may hit the road and anything that may hit the road to freeze and to bond, which you don’t want, of course,” Parker said.
Crews will have snow plows out to clear the roads, they ask you to stay home and off the roads if possible.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the system is expected to drop snow Thursday night into Friday.
