Quite annoyed by the face shown by his players, Pierre Sage did not want to be satisfied with simple three points Saturday evening (1-0). The OL coach hopes to see his team regain their football quickly.
Can we say that OL carried out a hold-up at home?
Pierre Sage: Oui.
You would have thought it would just be the first half with difficulties. It was the whole match. How to explain it?
We have difficulty in attacking play and I think it is linked to the speed of movement of the ball. She moved too slowly to open up spaces for the opponent. We really struggled to play in the interval. We managed to do it once in the first half with Benrahma who launches Breathe left side. It was quite effective, but we can't be satisfied with that. We can therefore consider that we were very well paid this (Saturday) evening and that our opponents deserved much better.
Usually, the substitutes bring something. This was not the case against Montpellier…
I still found that the replacements brought dynamism, but in a disorganized setting. I'm not entirely satisfied with the match, whether it's the starters or the substitutes. It's a whole thing and it's often difficult to get into this kind of match, so I'm not going to take any shots at the substitutes. I will rather consider the performance as a whole and that OL need to play better and therefore will have to work more this week. We have to find our best football and be the opposite of what we did against Montpellier. If we respect ourselves, if we respect the people who come to the stadium, we do not have the right to perform this performance.
“Getting back to basic things in the game”
You win this match and yet, one might think to listen to you that you lost it 3-0…
Yes, but my goal is not to win a match, but to win more. For that, you have to play better than that and I think that our security was our level of play over the last ten, fifteen games and we left it a little aside. You have to find it to perform well over time. We cannot have this scenario.
Winning in a landslide, can that also say something about this team?
Yes, but there is something you don't see in the locker room. They were happy, but also very angry with their performance. Everyone wants to quickly return to training to restore our image.
What should we find?
Intentions, having the will to have the ball when you don't have it. Very basic things. From the moment we find that again and with the quality of the players, we will be able to offer football again. We hadn't been good in Paris, we hadn't been good in the Coupe de France. We cut a week and had to prepare for a match against a very well organized team this (Saturday) evening. We hope that the story Brest will be different.
